Engineering Apprenticeship – Maintenance Technician

The Role

 

A fantastic apprenticeship opportunity has arisen for aspiring Engineers to join our apprenticeship scheme at the Port of Felixstowe and Harwich International Port.

 

Both ports are recruiting multiple apprentices across each site.  In your first year, you will be based off-site, studying full-time at Colchester Institute, where you will be fully trained and prepared for your on-site placements going into years 2 and 3.  

 

During the three-year apprenticeship agreement, the role will provide excellent opportunities to work on live projects and state of the art operational equipment as well as being introduced to the engineering requirements within Hutchison Ports UK.

 

Before you submit your application, please ensure that you state which site you will want to be based at; either Harwich International, the Port of Felixstowe or both, you will also need to be able to travel to Colchester Institute for the duration of your apprenticeship. 

 

Who are we looking for?

You will be someone who enjoys learning every day, relishes the delivery of outstanding work and has a desire to be part of a successful team of like-minded people.

 

Suitable applicants will have the following competencies;

  • A passion for learning and engineering
  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills.
  • Apprentices must also be enthusiastic, resilient and can demonstrate good problem solving and team working abilities.

Key Requirements:

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Evident interest in engineering as a subject
  • In line with industry Code of Practice, successful applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old prior to the apprenticeship commencing in August 2023.
  • Math and English GSCE’s Level 4 (C) or above
  • Hold a full driver’s licence (by August 2024)

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include:
  • Hobbies or voluntary work
  • Previous work experience
  • Engineering related school subjects
  • GCSE Level 3 - Science 

Key Dates for the diary:

  • Aptitude Testing Day : 22 March - Colchester Institute (All shortlisted Harwich and Port of Felixstowe applicants) 
  • Assessment Centre: 4th and 5th April - Port of Felixstowe (All shortlisted Harwich and Port of Felixstowe applicants) 
  • Interviews: W/C 10th April - Interviews will be held on-site at either the Port of Felixstowe or Harwich International Port, dependant on your preferred site.
