Emergency Medical Technician

The Role

 

The Port of Felixstowe, the UK’s largest deep water is looking for an Emergency Medical Technician to join the busy team. The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is responsible for providing the port community with a total emergency response solution that specialises in Medical, Fire and Technical Rescue services.

 

This role is responsible for attending all emergency calls in an operational capacity working across all elements of the service. It also provides a key service to business stakeholders through support services and processes in relation to confined space, safe movement and storage of hazardous goods and on-site hot work activity.


Starting salary will be £46,029 including shift allowance, upon successful completion of training will increase to £48,067. 

 

Key Requirements

-          Attend all emergency incident calls in an operational capacity

-          Undertake training and drills across all service areas to ensure operational readiness

-          Provide medical treatment via a walk-in minor injuries’ clinic

-          Ensure clinical, fire and rescue training is current and all portfolios are kept up to date

-          Aid investigations when incidents occur, helping to find the root cause of accidents, fires, or other emergency incidents.

-          Build and maintain strong working relationships with the staff of the Occupational Health Centre

-          Ensure that equipment is fully maintained and ready for use by completing all daily, weekly, and monthly checks without direct supervision, on all plant and equipment relating to the ERU and fire safety.

-          Adhere to published Emergency Response Unit Role and Responsibilities, clinical, fire and technical rescue governance standards at all times.

 

This role covers a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, working a mixture of days and nights. Please note: this is subject to shift change due to operational demands.

 

Who are we looking for?

 

Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria:

 

Essential:

-          Have a clean Group C1 driving licence

-          A fully qualified Emergency Medical Technician that must hold either a valid EMT/AAP qualification or a completed FREC 5 qualification with 750 hours training

-          Be prepared to attend and pass the Fire and Rescue Service Approved to Ride and Breathing Apparatus Training and continue a Fire portfolio

-          Attend and pass all technical rescue and confined space training

-          Ability to deal with stressful situations e.g., emergency incidents involving serious personal injury or death, being interviewed by enforcement agencies, or appearing in court on behalf of the Company.

-          Comfortable and capable at working at significant height as part of a rescue team

-          A strong team player with good interpersonal skills

-          Ability to intervene and manage situations where necessary

-          Demonstrates a disciplined approach to problem solving

-          Make complex judgments and decisions in assessing the risk of accidents
