Police Constable

The Role

 

Hutchison Ports (UK) – Port of Felixstowe is the largest deep-water Port in the UK and to support our continued development and growth we are looking to recruit a Police Constable to join the Port Police Unit.

 

Reporting directly to a Police Sergeant, you will conduct operational requirements of Port Policing and security strategy within the dock estate, as well as any required emergency or contingency response needs.


No previous police or security background is needed. Full training will be provided to the successful candidates.

 

Key Requirements

 

·         Maintain a high level of law knowledge through self-directed learning to keep up to date with changes in criminal law.

·         Ensure all Port Users abide by the current Health & Safety legislation as well as operational procedures and local agreements whilst enforcing the Unit’s Road Safety Strategy.

·         Ensure AEO compliance in line with Unit responsibilities and enforce the ISPS Code and Port Security Regulations.

·         Ensure that all incidents are reported and investigated as required by unit policy and procedures and UK law where applicable.

·         For all requests for assistance, respond professionally, expediently and without bias or judgement. These may be from members of the public, other employees, other agencies or any other person.

·         Ensure that the Unit strives to meet current and future demands and service adds value to the business goals by actively looking for ways in which working practices can be improved and refined.

·         Ensure all police and security tasks and activities are carried out within the performance standards as established by police & security management team.

·         Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, both local and national, to promote safe working practices whilst making recommendations for action and continuous improvement.

·         Provide protection to all persons, premises and cargo in the dock estates.

·         Conduct dynamic risk assessments as appropriate when ensuring all Police tasks are performed with the consideration for the Health and Safety of all present.

 

Salary is starting at £42,838 per year and upon successful completion of development framework can go up to £44,534 including shift allowance. 

Who are we looking for?

 

Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Full Clean Driving Licence (manual and automatic use)
  • Ability to show resilience due to working long periods, during emergency situations and other operational requirements in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to cope with changing work priorities in a pressurised and demanding environment on a 24/7 basis.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral to be able to enforce at times a level of influence, negotiation and direction.
  • Able to work effectively, accurately to deliver timely, high quality work which is technically and grammatically correct.

 

 No previous police or security background is needed. Full training will be provided to the successful candidates,  including attend and passing annual personal safety training, and pass a basic law course and successfully complete a one year probationary period.

Applicants will be vetted to NPPV Level 2 including financial checks. Appointments will not be

confirmed until acceptable vetting results are achieved, along with a Medical Assessment in-line with

National Medical Standards for Police Recruitment.

 

The role offers an attractive salary and a generous benefits package.

Working 42 hours a week, shifts may vary in duration and will include night shifts (defined at 23.45 – 07.45). Shifts are allocated at the end of each week for the following week. Flexible cover will be required for operational purposes.
